The Huguely trial has been recessed for the day. Rhonda Quagliana, one of George Huguely’s defense lawyers, is sick with a stomach bug. The judge asked all parties to reconvene at 12:30 PM to see if she was feeling any better, and the word was that she is still too sick to go forward today. So — no testimony today, and we’ll see how things go tomorrow. Rhonda has consulted with at least two doctors, so hopefully someone will be able to patch her up and send her back in tomorrow.
Courtroom observers saw her taking off the jacket of her suit last night during the trial, obviously hot. Since it is not July here, it seems likely that she was running a fever last night.
I just came back from a meeting of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association, where obviously this trial was Topic A. Three or four other lawyers told me about members of their firms who had been out sick with this stomach bug. It is apparently virulent, though short-lived.
Let’s hope that she is feeling better and can go tomorrow. WVIR’s website has, and will have, the latest.
